Photographs of Buffalo's African-American community from throughout the generations are being sought as part of a historical preservation project.

The Uncrowned Queens Institute, the Frank E. Merriweather Jr. Library and the Buffalo Genealogical Society of the African Diaspora are asking members of the community to share their photos from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Merriweather Library, 1324 Jefferson Ave. Staff will be available to scan and upload photographs to the Uncrowned Community Builders website at www.uncrownedcommunitybuilders.com.

Founded in 1999 by Barbara Seals Nevergold and Peggy Brooks-Bertram, the Uncrowned Queens Institute preserves Buffalo's African-American history by documenting the stories of many in the black community who helped build the city. Since its founding, the institute has archived hundreds of these stories on its online archive.
