Gen Z rap artist Mulatto calls them “brokeys”,  90’s legendary pop group TLC labeled them “scrubs” and 80’s songstress Gwen Guthrie didn’t have a title for them but she sang the catch phrase you got to have a J-O-B if you want to be with me, because aint nothing going on but the rent. Every generation has dealt with less than ambitious men using their mannish charms to convince women to bypass their pocketbooks in pursuit of some physical lovin’ but it never works.  Author Pattie Ehsaei, better known as the duchess of decorum on TikTok has created a handbook for young women — and some seasoned women that need a refresher — on how to escape the minefields in the dating landscape that can affect a woman’s overall pursuit of financial freedom and overall quality of life.

Ehsaei begins her literary lesson with the hard truth that no one is coming to save you. She encourages the reader to accept the reality of being responsible for their own success. She couples that with the second rule and title of the book, Never Date a Broke Dude. Realistically, Ehsaei’s definition of a broke dude has transitioned from TLC’s proverbial scrub and in 2025 no longer is accompanied by gender constraints. A “broke dude” is anyone who is not willing to match their significant others ambition, drive, commitment and work ethic.

Once the inclusive definition of the term “broke dude” has been explained, Ehsaei moves on to empowering the ready to become a successful well-rounded woman with financial freedom. She tackles myths about credit, offers realistic takeaways on investing and creating realistic budgets to manage finances at any level.  Ehsaei’s handbook encourages women to be smart about their finances at a young age so they are able to create the life of their dreams. The handbook ends with Ehsaei reminding readers that they are worth more than they realize and deserve to make solid choices that will deliver the results they want for their curated life.

The book is a must-have for women wanting to empower their daughters, granddaughters, neices and goddaughters on how to create their own version of happiness. Instead of focusing on the relationship with men or using men as a financial advantage, the author gives strategies and instructions on how women can follow in Cher’s footsteps and become the rich man of their own dreams.
