Usher's World-Renowned Saxophonist Mike Burton to Celebrate Birthday with Two Star Studded Shows at The Velvet Note Saturday, August 22nd
Acclaimed saxophonist, producer, educator, and sought after touring musician Mike Burton is turning his birthday celebration into a night to remember, and he’s inviting his friends, fans, and music lovers to join him for what promises to be the birthday party of all time at The Velvet Note in Alpharetta, Georgia, on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Known for his soulful, genre blending sound that moves effortlessly through jazz, R&B, and gospel, Burton will take center stage for two special performances at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., giving guests two opportunities to experience his dynamic musicianship in an intimate live setting.
“This birthday is about celebrating life, music, friendship, and the people who have been part of my journey,” says Burton. “I want to celebrate with my friends, my supporters, and everyone who loves great music. We’re going to make this a birthday celebration to remember!”
Burton is no stranger to some of the biggest stages in music.
The accomplished saxophonist currently performs with global superstar Usher and has shared the stage and studio with an extraordinary roster of internationally recognized artists, including Doja Cat, Patti LaBelle, Jill Scott, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Anita Baker, The Jacksons, PJ Morton, Lecrae, Kelly Rowland, and Kirk Franklin, among many others.
His performance résumé also includes appearances with The Stellar Band at the Stellar Gospel Music Awards, as well as performances connected to Black Music Honors and Urban One Honors, bringing his distinctive saxophone sound to major televised music events.
A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Burton was raised in a musical household that helped shape his expressive approach to music from an early age.
He earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Jazz Studies from the prestigious Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he studied under legendary educator David Baker and performed with the IU Soul Revue.
Beyond his work as a touring and session musician, Burton is establishing himself as a compelling solo artist. His latest release, “Downtime,” reflects his evolving artistic identity, delivering an introspective, mood driven sound built around emotion, space, restraint, and storytelling.
Burton is also passionate about education and mentorship.
He previously served as an Artist in Residence in the U.S. Virgin Islands and continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of musicians while maintaining his base in the Atlanta area.
Now, Burton is bringing all of those experiences together for one unforgettable birthday celebration.
