Summer in East Point, Georgia, has its own rhythm—and that rhythm echoed loud and proud at the season’s much-anticipated kickoff of Wednesday Wind Down in the Point, an event that continues to solidify itself as a cultural cornerstone in the metro Atlanta area. Conceived by the ever-visionary Councilwoman Sharon Shropshire, this vibrant celebration is a love letter to East Point’s diversity, energy, and accessibility.

Held in the heart of East Point and sponsored by the East Point Convention and Visitors Bureau, this free-to-the-public event draws thousands from across the region and beyond. This year’s opener was nothing short of electric, drawing an estimated 40,000 attendees to experience a night of live music, food, and community spirit under the warm Georgia skies.

The lineup was nothing less than iconic. Hip-hop royalty graced the stage—Trina, Too Short, and 8Ball & MJG lit up the night with classic hits, high-octane energy, and crowd-pleasing charisma. And as if that weren’t enough, the legendary Goodie Mob took center stage, headlining the evening with a performance that had the crowd on its feet, united in celebration and nostalgia.

Another highlight to the experience was the thoughtful planning and execution behind the scenes. From the moment guests arrived, it was clear that every detail had been carefully considered. Adequate restroom facilities were on hand to accommodate the massive crowd, and a variety of local food vendors ensured that no one went hungry. Whether you were in the mood for Southern comfort food, Caribbean spice, or vegan delights, there was something for every palate.

Security was tight but friendly, with the East Point Police Department maintaining a safe and welcoming atmosphere. Families, couples, and groups of friends were able to relax, dance, and enjoy the music with peace of mind. The event layout was intuitive, with sightlines so well-designed that every attendee—no matter where they were seated—had a clear view of the stage.

Perhaps most impressive was the state-of-the-art sound system that made every beat resonate with clarity and depth. It was a sonic experience that matched the scale and ambition of the event itself, a testament to the professionalism and pride poured into the planning.

Councilwoman Shropshire shared that events like Wednesday Wind Down do more than entertain—they shine a spotlight on all that East Point has to offer. “East Point is vibrant, diverse, and ideally located—just minutes from downtown Atlanta and the airport,” she explained. “This event puts all of that on display.”

At The Recap Room at Lenox & Parker, we left the event not just entertained, but inspired. Wednesday Wind Down in the Point is more than a concert—it’s a celebration of community, culture, and connection. And if the opening night is any indication, East Point’s summer is just getting started.
