Teen Journalist & Visual Artist Madison Harrison Bridges Cultures Through K-POP - Dreams of Interviewing and Photographing Global K-POP Stars, BTS

As global K-POP sensation BTS prepares to take the stage in Tampa Bay this weekend, teen journalist, photographer, and visual artist Madison Harrison is reflecting on the experiences, inspiration, and creative discipline that continue to shape her journey.

Madison Harrison, based in Tampa, Florida, has spent the past 11 years building a professional photography and journalism career that began in childhood.
She has worked as a celebrity photographer documenting major cultural and entertainment figures including President Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, and John Legend, and has also appeared on “Steve Harvey’s Extraordinary Kids Show.”

She describes music as the gateway that expanded her creativity and curiosity about the world. “Seeing people come together with music made me want to appreciate and learn more,” she said.
Madison was 15 years old in 2022 when her passion for K-POP began after discovering BTS.
She first watched BTS’s performance at Lollapalooza live on television, which became a defining moment in her journey.
“When I saw BTS perform, especially j-hope, a member of BTS, rapper and dancer, I was inspired by his passion for music,” she said. “Then I watched the other members of BTS and was completely drawn in. I wanted to pursue my dreams. I was inspired by their music and pulled in.”
Madison says she and fans worldwide admire all seven members of BTS: Jung Kook, V, Jimin, Suga, RM, Jin, and j-hope.
Her appreciation for K-POP also expanded into a deeper connection with Korean culture after traveling to South Korea.
“My favorite thing to do is meet in cafés and restaurants,” she explained. “It’s so interconnected, you can go to a café, then a restaurant, then a singing room (karaoke), and walk around and experience Korean culture.”
She added, “Everything is close and you can walk there, though people do ride mopeds. There are a lot of hills, but it’s beautiful.”
Madison is also learning Korean; a step she says supports her future goals in translation and cross-cultural communication. “I really appreciate people from different cultures,” she shared.
Madison will attend the BTS concert in Florida this Sunday, April 26. “I’m going to the concert where I live to see BTS this Sunday,” she said. “I’m super excited.”
BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a South Korean boy band formed in 2010. The group continues to be one of the most influential music acts in the world, shaping global pop culture and inspiring millions of fans.
Madison’s connection to BTS goes far beyond fandom.
She has built a consistent creative practice centered on art, analysis, and storytelling, drawing BTS every single day for 552 days while awaiting their return from mandatory military service, while continuing to write analytical pieces on their music and artistic evolution.
Madison was 15 years old when she first saw j-hope, a member of BTS, perform at Lollapalooza via livestream, which became a defining moment when she fell in love with the group.
She also spent seven weeks in South Korea last summer, further deepening her connection to Korean culture and K-POP.
When asked what makes her a true BTS super fan, she said, “I drew them every single day.”
She also reflected on how the group’s military enlistment period shaped her discipline as an artist. “When they first enlisted in the military, I thought, if they are gone for a while, why don’t I practice drawing them?” she said. “That helped me with my art.”

Madison Harrison’s professional dream is to one day photograph and interview BTS.
She also says she would love the opportunity to interview them in a concert setting, along with other major artists in the future.
When asked what her first question would be, she said, “I would ask them how they continually balance their passion on stage with their desire to still be regular people.”
Madison’s musical background is equally diverse.
She plays piano, trombone, euphonium, and violin, and throughout middle school and high school participated in marching band and honor band, experiences she describes as formative.
Her musical taste spans jazz, R&B, rock, hip-hop, indie pop, 80s and 90s music, classical, and timeless classics.
She also proudly embraces her Jamaican heritage, which influences her creativity and perspective.
