In celebration of the beginning of a new era, longtime Portland collaborators Mic Crenshaw and Gen.Erik have united with Tanzanian Dancehall artist Kiloriti Maasai to release a new Reggae induced Hip-Hop track “Freedom”.

Following tours through Africa and Russia, and collabs with dead prez and others, Mic Crenshaw has become a world-renowned artist, teacher, and activist. Meanwhile, Gen.Erik has taken a behind the scenes role in past years as the booking agent for many of hip-hop’s all-time greats (Rakim, Raekwon, Scarface, Ghostface, DJ Quik, Goodie Mob).

Both Crenshaw and Gen.Erik have been inspired by the hope and unity displayed in recent months, sparking the decision to work together again creatively; and Kiloriti added his signature East African Dancehall flavor.

According to Gen.Erik, who also produced the track, “Just as we were pondering the threats to freedom in our own country, we received an email that we couldn't receive access to the vocal tracks because Tanzania had blocked their internet until after the election. It really puts things into perspective- Here we are, fighting against misinformation, division, corruption, and tyranny; while others have no freedom to even address these issues publicly.”
