Today, critically acclaimed 23-year-old Bajan singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and R&B sensation Ayoni returns with a new heartfelt single entitled “Purpose.” The song arrives on the eve of the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival premiere of the Alicia Key’s-produced documentary Uncharted, in which Ayoni makes her big-screen debut as one of three songwriters featured as they participate in the She is The Music songwriting camp and addresses the music industry’s lack of access and opportunity granted to young black and brown women. “Purpose” is prominently featured in the documentary. Penned during the She Is The Music songwriting camp, a nonprofit founded by Alicia Keys, “Purpose” reflects on the bittersweet emotions linked with any change. Over a gentle piano melody, her vulnerable lyrics explore the idea of sacrificial love and the promise of destiny, welcoming in all the beauty and pain of new beginnings. Ayoni’spowerful vocals are met with heavenly harmonies and charging drums in the anthemic refrain, “Hope you find your purpose, no you don’t deserve this.”

Regarding the new single, Ayoni noted, ‘Purpose’ was a moment in camp where everything fell into place for me,” she reminisces. “It felt like it aligned with my artistry and what I was going for, transitioning into a new chapter of my life. The lyrics are about standing in your purpose and trusting your destiny. I hope a lot of people can resonate with it.” Speaking to Ayoni about the “Uncharted” standout song “Purpose,” Alicia Keys muses, “That’s a big vibe. Big big vibe. I love the melody, and I remember the tone of your voice. It’s really great on this.”

With more music on the way, “Purpose” gives fans a glimpse into her current sonic realm. Fortunately, audiences won’t have to wait, as Ayoni will headline a performance on Wednesday, June 14th, at Mercury Lounge in New York City. It also reeled in significant critical acclaim from the likes of Earmilk, Melodic Mag, Bong Mines Entertainment, and more. Meanwhile, Glide Magazine praised, “Ayoni carves out her own space in the genre by introducing her own version of island soul that adds welcome and unexpected rhythmic and melodic turns.”

Ayoni has garnered 18M+ streams on Spotify, with her #1 streamed song “September”reaching almost 5M streams alone. Additionally, her songs “Unmoved (A Black Woman Truth)” and “Divine” have a close 3M and 2M streams, respectively.
