We took a moment to talk with the multi-genre recording artist about his creative process, his passion for multiple genres, his work in healthcare and fitness, and what continues to drive him forward in this exciting season of his career.
Q: You describe yourself as a multi-genre recording artist. What does that mean to you?
Deon Robertson: Music has always been bigger than one lane for me. Gospel is my foundation because it reflects my faith and who I am at the core. Jazz gives me freedom to explore creativity, R&B and soul allow me to connect emotionally, and classical music brings discipline and precision. I love all forms of music because each one tells a different story and reaches people in a different way.
Q: Your song “Working Out for Your Good” continues to resonate with listeners everywhere. Why do you think it connects so deeply?
Deon Robertson: Because it speaks to real life. Everyone goes through seasons where things don’t make sense. The message of the song is that even in those moments, there’s a greater purpose being worked out. I’ve lived that truth myself, so when I sing it, it comes from a real place. That’s why people feel it.

Q: Your career has taken you across music, television, and major platforms, including a Times Square Billboard feature. What did that moment mean to you?
Deon Robertson: “That was definitely a surreal moment for me. Seeing myself on a larger-than-life Billboard in New York’s Times Square was a reminder of how far God has brought me. It represented more than visibility—it represented growth, consistency, and purpose. I don’t take moments like that for granted because I know where I started. It just motivates me to keep going and keep creating music that inspires people.”
Q: You’re also an actor. How does acting compare to music for you?
Deon Robertson: They’re both storytelling. Music allows me to express emotion through sound and lyrics, while acting lets me step into different characters and experiences. I enjoy both because they stretch me creatively and allow me to connect with audiences in different ways.
Q: You’ve also built a career in healthcare. What inspired that path?
Deon Robertson: I’ve always had a heart for serving people. Healthcare gives me another way to make a difference in someone’s life. I’m currently pursuing my Nurse Practitioner degree because I want to continue growing and being able to help people on a deeper level. Whether it’s through music or medicine, the goal is always service.

Q: Fitness is also a major part of your lifestyle. How does it influence everything else you do?
Deon Robertson: Fitness keeps me disciplined and focused. It strengthens me mentally, physically, and spiritually. That discipline carries over into music, acting, and healthcare. Everything is connected, and fitness helps me stay balanced so I can show up at my best in every area.
Q: What continues to motivate you after all these years?
Deon Robertson: Purpose. I believe I’ve been given multiple gifts, and I want to use all of them to inspire and uplift others. If something I do helps someone keep going, then I’ve done what I’m supposed to do.
Q: What’s next for you?
Deon Robertson: More music, more acting opportunities, continuing my healthcare journey, and growing in every area I’ve been called to. I’m excited about what’s ahead. I really believe the best is still to come.
