Acclaimed singer, songwriter, producer, and music pioneer Melvin Riley, the mastermind and lead vocalist behind influential R&B and Pop group Ready for the World, is set to release his long-awaited new project No AI – The Album, arriving June 9, 2026.

The album marks a powerful return from one of R&B and Pop music’s most influential voices and creative architects of timeless love songs and authentic musicianship.

Melvin Riley’s voice remains as powerful and unmistakable as ever, carrying the same soulful tone, emotional depth, and signature smoothness that have defined his legacy for decades, proving that his sound is just as compelling and timeless today as it was at the height of his career.

Born in Clarksdale and raised in Flint, Melvin Riley’s musical foundation was shaped by deep cultural roots and early exposure to Southern soul, blues, and Midwest funk traditions.

Clarksdale, located in the state of Mississippi and internationally recognized as the birthplace of the blues, has long been home to some of music’s most celebrated and influential artists, including Sam Cooke, Muddy Waters, Junior Parker, John Lee Hooker, and Bessie Smith, whose groundbreaking artistry helped shape the sound of American music for generations.

Flint, Michigan has also produced a rich musical legacy, with artists such as MC Breed, The Dayton Family, and internationally recognized group Ready for the World helping place the city firmly on the map in R&B, Pop, funk, and hip-hop culture.

Melvin Riley often credits his songwriting gift to his upbringing and childhood summer trips riding in the back of his father’s Cadillac between Michigan and Mississippi, where he absorbed the sound, soul, and storytelling of blues greats.

As co-founder, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter of Ready for the World, Melvin Riley helped create some of the most iconic R&B and Pop hits of the 1980s and beyond, including Oh Sheila, Love You Down, Tonight, Gently, Deep Inside Your Love, My Girly, and Ceramic Girl.

The group achieved major chart success, including three Billboard Hot 100 hits, with two Top 10 records and one No. 1 single, along with seven US R&B Top 10 hits (two reaching No. 1) and two US Dance Top 10 hits (one reaching No. 1), solidifying their impact across R&B, Pop, and Dance music.

Melvin Riley reflects on the inspiration behind No AI – The Album, his journey from Clarksdale, Mississippi to Flint, Michigan, and the enduring legacy of Ready for the World, while offering insight into authenticity, creativity, and the evolution of real music in today’s industry.

Q: What inspired this long-awaited return with No AI – The Album?

Melvin Riley: “This project is really about timing and truth. I’ve been blessed to have a long career, and over time you start to reflect on what really matters in music. It was time for a full album that brings everything back to the heart, real songs, real emotion, and real storytelling. I wanted this project to feel honest from start to finish.”

Q: You’ve had a long history in R&B and Pop music. How has your journey shaped this album?

Melvin Riley: “My journey started in Clarksdale and Flint, surrounded by blues, soul, and real-life experiences. Then coming up with Ready for the World, writing those records, touring, and living through all of that shaped me. Every season added something to my sound. This album reflects all of those chapters.”

Q: Your songwriting has influenced many major artists. Does that impact how you approach music today?

Melvin Riley: “I don’t think about influence when I’m creating, I think about honesty. But I’m grateful when people say my work inspired them. That just tells me the music did what it was supposed to do. Today, I still approach every song the same way: from a real place.”

Q: What can fans expect from No Al - The Album?

Melvin Riley: “Fans can expect real music, real storytelling, and real soul, but also a few surprises. There are moments that will feel familiar to longtime listeners, and other moments that show a different side creatively. I wanted to give people something they can feel, not just hear.”

Q: What does this album represent in your career right now?

Melvin Riley: “It represents gratitude, growth, and staying true to the essence of music. It’s not about chasing anything, it’s about expressing where I am now and honoring where I’ve been. This project is a reflection of life, music, and purpose coming together.”

Q: How would you describe your voice and artistry today?

Melvin Riley: “My voice still comes from the same place it always has soul, truth, and emotion. I don’t try to recreate the past; I just stay honest to who I am now. The feeling is still there, and that’s what matters most.”

With No AI – The Album, Melvin Riley continues to affirm his legacy as one of R&B and Pop music’s most respected and emotionally authentic voices. His signature sound remains rooted in soul, truth, and timeless musical expression.
