As the nation celebrates Black Music Month, immersive artist Robert E. Hansen is honoring some of music’s most influential icons in a way that goes far beyond traditional portraiture.

Through his groundbreaking new collection, Culture of Legacy, Hansen is blending fine art, technology, storytelling, and cultural preservation into an experience designed to educate, inspire, and endure.

During a recent telephone interview, Hansen shared the inspiration behind his latest artistic venture and the mission driving his work, to preserve the stories, creativity, and cultural contributions of the artists who have shaped generations.

Launching exclusively at iamroberthansen.com, Culture of Legacy transforms the stories and legacies of Black music pioneers into limited-edition, wearable works of art and collectible pieces that merge creativity, innovation, and history.

Stevie Wonder: Celebrating a musical legend and cultural icon.
Michael Jackson: Honoring the King of Pop’s timeless legacy.
Prince: Celebrating a visionary who redefined music and creativity.
Jalen Brunson, New York Knicks point guard and basketball leader.

The inaugural collection pays tribute to four legendary artists whose influence continues to shape generations: Stevie Wonder, Tupac Shakur, Prince, and Michael Jackson.

Through Hansen’s signature mixed-media process, each portrait is composed of thousands of archival-inspired images woven together to reflect the depth of each icon’s artistry, activism, creativity, and cultural influence.

For Hansen, the collection represents more than artwork, it represents a mission to preserve stories that have shaped the world.

“Culture of Legacy is about preserving the stories that helped shape our culture,” Hansen shared during the telephone interview. “These artists were more than entertainers. They were visionaries, activists, innovators, and cultural architects. Their contributions deserve to be remembered in ways that connect with future generations.”

His Harlem upbringing introduced him to the power of storytelling and the importance of preserving the moments, voices, and cultural milestones that define communities.

In a perfect reflection of that same spirit, the newly crowned champion New York Knicks have united fans across New York through passion, pride, and a shared sense of identity.

Hansen’s art carries that same power, bringing people together through visual storytelling and honoring the icons and moments that inspire generations.

Continuing that connection, Hansen has created a tribute wearable art piece celebrating the talent, determination, and passion of Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson.

“Growing up in Harlem exposed me to creativity, culture, resilience, and history every day,” Hansen explained. “The community taught me that art isn’t just something you look at, it’s something you experience. It tells stories, creates dialogue, and preserves moments that might otherwise be forgotten.”

For Hansen, Harlem was more than a place where he lived—it was the foundation for his artistic vision.

His experiences throughout New York City exposed him to a world of diversity, where different cultures, traditions, music, fashion, and artistic movements came together to create something uniquely powerful.

“New York is a place where cultures collide and create something new,” Hansen shared. “You can walk down one street and experience so many different influences, music, fashion, art, and history. That environment shaped the way I see the world.”

The cultural richness of New York helped Hansen understand the importance of representation and storytelling.

Harlem’s legacy as a center of Black creativity and innovation introduced him to generations of artists who used their talents to document experiences, challenge perspectives, and inspire change.

“Art has always been a way to document who we are,” Hansen said. “The communities, the people, and the moments that shape us are part of our collective history.”

That philosophy became the foundation of Hansen’s work as an immersive artist and visual storyteller.

Although Hansen’s work has celebrated cultural icons and transformed storytelling through immersive art, the piece that remains closest to his heart is also the very first artwork he ever created.

During the telephone interview, when asked about the most meaningful moments in his artistic journey, Hansen immediately shared that the portrait of his mother holds a special place in his heart.

“My mother,” he said.

The painting marked the beginning of Hansen’s artistic journey and remains one of his most treasured works.

More than just a portrait, the piece represents love, family, inspiration, and the person who helped shape the artist he would become.

“My mother was my foundation,” he shared. “That piece reminds me where I came from and why I create.”

Long before immersive technology, national recognition, and collaborations with major brands, Hansen discovered through that first painting the power of art to preserve memories, honor people, and tell stories that last beyond a lifetime.

For Hansen, legacy begins with personal stories. That same belief now drives Culture of Legacy, where he honors legendary figures whose creativity, influence, and contributions have shaped generations.

The inaugural Culture of Legacy collection that honors Stevie Wonder, Tupac Shakur, Prince and Michael Jackson, all demonstrate creatively how the four artists’ influence extends far beyond music.

Hansen carefully selected these icons because each represents a unique chapter of cultural impact, innovation, and artistic excellence.

Through his artwork, he captures not only their images but the movements, messages, and lasting influence they created.

Stevie Wonder’s musical genius and advocacy, Tupac Shakur’s powerful storytelling and social awareness, Prince’s groundbreaking creativity and individuality, and Michael Jackson’s global impact represent the many ways artists can transform culture.

When asked during the interview what he hopes these legends would say if they could see the collection today, Hansen reflected on the importance of preserving their contributions with authenticity and respect.

“I hope they would see that their stories are continuing to inspire people,” he said. “I hope they would recognize that their contributions are being preserved with respect, authenticity, and love.”
