If you’ve been dreaming about visiting the Motherland but haven’t quite found the right time, the right reason, or the motivation to finally book that flight, Brandy may have just taken away every excuse you’ve been holding on to. The superstar affectionately known as “The Vocal Bible” is taking her incomparable legendary voice to Lagos, Nigeria, this December, and suddenly spending Christmas in Africa sounds like the perfect way to close out 2026.

GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter, and actress Brandy will headline Flytime’s House of R&B on Sunday, December 20, at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos. Sponsored by Glenmorangie, the concert kicks off six nights of entertainment celebrating music, culture, and the undeniable connection between Africa and its diaspora.

For those of us who grew up with Brandy providing the soundtrack to our teenage crushes, first heartbreaks, and eventually our grown-woman experiences, the opportunity to experience her music on African soil feels particularly special. This is the woman who gave us “I Wanna Be Down,” “Almost Doesn’t Count,” “Full Moon,” and the GRAMMY-winning duet “The Boy Is Mine.” Her unmistakable harmonies have influenced generations of singers, and more than three decades into her career, her impact remains undeniable.

Earlier this year Brandy showed up and showed out at the culturally infamous Roots picnic in Philly accompanied by her musical bestie Monica.  The two headlined at Essence before Brandy received the Black Music Icon Award from the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective, earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and released her memoir, PHASES, which debuted at No. 1 on The New York Times Best Seller list. Now she’s closing out this iconic year in one of the motherland's most exciting entertainment destinations.

Cecil and Keke Hammond

Founded by entertainment entrepreneur Cecil Hammond in 2004, Flytime has helped transform Lagos into a major destination for live entertainment. Its stages have welcomed everyone from Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, and Tems to Megan Thee Stallion, Boyz II Men, Bobby Brown, and Bell Biv DeVoe.

Brandy’s performance is part of Lagos’s increasingly popular Detty December, when Nigerians living abroad, international travelers, and music lovers descend on the city for weeks of concerts, celebrations, nightlife, and cultural experiences.

Flytime’s six-night celebration begins December 20 with Brandy’s House of R&B, followed by Coca-Cola Rhythm Unplugged on December 21, Flytime Fest from December 22 through 24, and Flytime Circle on Christmas Day. Additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

But beyond the concerts, there’s something beautiful about the possibility of making this trip. So many African Americans have spent years talking about visiting the continent, reconnecting with our roots, and experiencing the beauty and richness of African culture firsthand. Yet somehow, another year passes, another Christmas comes and goes, and that dream remains on the bucket list.

Imagine spending your Christmas surrounded by the energy of Lagos, exploring Nigerian food, fashion, art, and nightlife, and enjoying one of R&B’s most celebrated voices along the way.

Brandy may be the headliner, but the real experience could be so much bigger than one concert. For anyone who’s been waiting for a reason to finally touch down in the Motherland, The Vocal Bible may have just delivered the invitation you’ve been waiting for.
